Earth for Us to Protect
Where it all started
In 2014, the Ecological Engineering Institute of Africa was established by a group of visionary change leaders from across Africa and the world. This group of leaders was comprised of business leaders, academics, and private sector leaders who were united by a shared goal: to promote inter-collaboration in Africa that would enable us to effectively address the continent's most pressing sustainability challenges in a bio-intelligent manner.

With a deep commitment to promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship, our founders recognized that the key to unlocking Africa's potential lay in our ability to work together across sectors and disciplines. Through their leadership and tireless dedication, they created an organization that would serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the continent, inspiring a new generation of change agents to take action towards creating a more sustainable and equitable future.

Today, the Ecological Engineering Institute of Africa continues to build on this legacy, working tirelessly to promote inter-collaboration and catalyze impactful solutions to the challenges facing Africa and the world through ecological engineering. By leveraging our extensive network of partners and stakeholders, we are driving change and making a tangible difference in the lives of people and the environment across the continent.
Our Vision
Our vision at the Ecological Engineering Institute of Africa is to be at the forefront of ecological engineering, leading the way in solving Africa's sustainability challenges through innovative and impactful solutions. Over the next decade, we aim to establish Africa's own "Biosphere 3" for ecological engineering, complete with state-of-the-art academic, training, and laboratory facilities. We envision a network of strategically located satellite institutions across Africa that will actively research and demonstrate real-world ecological engineering solutions. Our ultimate goal is to create a world where ecological engineering plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development, ensuring environmental stewardship, and improving the well-being of both human and non-human communities.
Our Mission
The Ecological Engineering Institute of Africa endeavors to promote the development and expansion of ecological science in Africa. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, impact-driven training, and post-normal scientific research, we strive to establish a discipline that is centered on the intrinsic capacity of ecosystems to self-design, systematic testing of ecological engineering theories, and a holistic system-based approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of ecosystems. We also focus on innovative planetary health solutions, biological conservation, and rewilding, while highlighting the critical importance of coupled human-nature interactions, ecosystem values and services, and both economic and intrinsic benefits
